About Us

The Starfish Way is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people through engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning experiences. We offer a range of programmes designed to help young people build confidence, develop practical life skills, achieve recognised awards, and prepare for future opportunities.

Originally created during the COVID-19 lockdowns, The Starfish Way Distance Learning Hub was developed to ensure young people could continue progressing with their Duke of Edinburgh's Award and personal development from home when face-to-face activities were not possible. What began as a way to keep learners connected, engaged, and motivated has grown into a valuable online learning resource, supporting young people wherever they are and whenever they choose to learn.

Today, we have moved to a new learning platform, providing an improved and more accessible experience for learners. The Hub offers a wide range of interactive courses and activities that support skill development, physical activity, volunteering, wellbeing, and Duke of Edinburgh's Award participation. Learners can work through modules at their own pace, revisit content when needed, and build evidence of their achievements in a flexible way that fits around school, family, and other commitments

Our courses are designed to do more than simply teach new skills. They help young people develop confidence, independence, resilience, and a sense of achievement. By engaging with activities that reflect their interests and abilities, learners can discover new passions, build practical life skills, and work towards meaningful goals in a supportive environment.

Whether completing modules as part of their Duke of Edinburgh's Award journey or purely for personal interest, learners benefit from the flexibility to learn in a way that suits them. The Hub encourages self-directed learning while providing structure, guidance, and opportunities to celebrate progress, helping young people gain skills and confidence that extend well beyond the course itself.

Distance Learning Hub contributors

Our courses have been developed by a diverse group of staff, volunteers, educators, subject specialists, and practitioners who are passionate about helping young people learn and succeed. By bringing together knowledge from different fields and experiences, our contributors help create a rich learning environment that supports every young person's journey of growth and achievement.
