A 12-week course designed and provided by The Starfish Way, suitable for the Bronze sectional certificate. If you want to complete this module for Silver or Gold, then simply take the skills you’ve learnt in the first 12 weeks and continue to create and plan your own weekly balanced meals to cook and eat. Of course you can use the recipes in the Mission Nutrition cookbook too if you wish. Make sure you record your activity for your sectional certificate.

A 12-week course designed and provided by The Starfish Way in partnership with Lunaticrafts, suitable for the Bronze, Silver and Gold sectional certificate.

The course will provide an overview and practical application of different Yoga styles from the Hatha family. Students will also learn about the history of Yoga, interesting facts and usages and how they can establish their own Yoga practice at home.

Yoga styles include:

• Yin Yoga
• Vinyasa Yoga
• Restorative Yoga
• Meditation
• And many more!

An opportunity to volunteer, but from the comfort of your own home. 

Zooniverse is a site that is recognised by the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to provide volunteering opportunities for Duke of Edinburgh Awards at all levels. Zooniverse finds projects from around the world in all areas of interest.

Volunteer for 1 hour every week on the project of your choice or choose a different one each week. You can do this for 12 or 24 weeks depending on which award level you are completing.

In this module we will discover mindfulness in a secular context. This is something you might like to call ‘modern Mindfulness’. 

This week you will read a short introduction about Mindfulness, what it is and how it is used.

A 12 week course designed and provided by The Starfish Way SCIO suitable for the Bronze, Silver and Gold sectional certificate.

The course will provide a series of nature and garden based activities designed to promote knowledge of, improving and learning gardening skills.

Activities include:

Planting vegetables

Building a bug hotel

Garden habitats

Knowledge about different animal species

Please note, you will require a number of resources including gardening and building tools to take part in this course. Some activities will also require some help from a grown up or another pair of hands. Please have a look through the course and decide if it's right for you before committing to it. There is no obligation to purchase anything for this course. Some if it you may already have at home and some things you may not need to complete the task.

This module builds on the skills you have learned in the ‘Learning and Playing Chess’ module from our Distance Learning Hub. If you are new to chess and haven’t taken that module, we encourage you to do that module first before moving on to this one. In this module, you will find out how to further improve your Chess skills, by using online resources to practise and play in different ways. The module is set up in three parts, an outline can be seen below.

Advanced Yoga challenges you to get out of your comfort zone and to grow physically and mentally though Yoga and Pranayama. If you have a regular Yoga practice and/or have taken the Beginner's Yoga module, then this intermediate level Yoga is for you!

This advanced Yoga module contains 12 weeks of material. You'll learn each Yoga style for two weeks.

The first week is to read about the history of Yin Yoga and to practice a matching breathing technique. The second week is to read about the benefits and to practice this yoga style with a guided video.

Weekly reflection can be noted down in the Lotus log which you can access within the overview. This can be for yourself or as evidence for your Duke of Edinburgh Award sectional certificate.
